DAY 27- 30 Day Writing Challenge

In response to this post, lawrenceez asked “Would be interesting to see this account through a first person narrative and to experience the sheer panic.”

I have THREE  more days of challenges left to do! I’d love to do YOUR challenge next. Drop me a comment below, or Tweet me @peterwynmosey, or Facebook me @peterwynmosey or drop me an email at [email protected]

The warning bell sounds. The last day for humankind on earth is finally here. I suddenly shocked myself to life as the earth around me died. Seconds to go and I wasted it in blame. The millennia that we scorched the planet pissed me off to the core.

I went to the government assigned meeting point to join the reluctant faces filled with dread. But the misery of these last three years would be over. We may never breathe again, but it had to be better than having our lungs choked.

I stepped forward to take my place in the queue, ready to swallow my fate. We were all responsible, we had all burnt this planet and turned our backs of it. Nobody was innocent. And this was our punishment, to be fated to the abyss.

One-by-one  I watched those ahead of me calmly consume their unholy communion before rejoining the earth. I could break free. I could escape. But there was no clean water. No power. We’d squandered our resources to feed ourselves, yet in doing so we polluted our food sources.

It was my turn. I stepped forward. My life rushing through my veins as I reached out, shaking to take the tablet that would end it all. I opened my mouth and closed my eyes.
