Looking To Expand Your Business? Don’t Forget About These Cost

It’s an exciting time in your business right now. You’re doing well, you’re selling well, and you’ve gotten more good reviews in the past 6 months than you did for the first 12.

These are all signs you’ve got the ball rolling, and now it’s picking up the kind of steam every small business owner dreams of.

However, before your expansion goals get underway, you’re going to need to know all of the costs you’ll have to contend with. And some can be very easy to forget about, which is why we’ve listed them down below for you.

Hiring New Personnel

There’s a lot of money that goes into hiring new employees, and most business owners underestimate this cost from the get go. Think about it. You have a job role open and you want to fill it with the perfect candidate. Every business owner does.

But that means you have to pay to get the opening posted, spend a lot of time sorting through applications and conducting interviews, and even compensate candidates for paid tasks.

And if it turns out that you’ve hired someone unsuitable for the job, you have to start all over again – only this time, with half the resources and a severance package to fork out for.

You can turn to recruitment companies for help, and this can cut down the length of the process. But once again, it’s going to cost you to use their services.

Maintaining/Upgrading Your Tech

If you’re going to expand your business, you’re going to need plenty of new tech to keep things running as well.

New employees are going to need their own company-issued laptops or phones, and if you need everyone in the office at the same time, you’re going to need desks for everyone too.

And this can be one of the biggest costs on your expansion balance sheet. Not only do you need to buy a host of new equipment, but you need to look after it as well.

Downtime is more expensive than anything else, so if something breaks, or doesn’t arrive in time, or takes time to actually boot up and work, you could end up out of pocket.

Look into corporate phone and laptop repair services before you do anything else. Make a list of the equipment you’ll need, and then arrange for both their set up and installation, as well as ongoing maintenance. Getting this sorted before you need them is key!

How Much Time You’ll Need

We’ve touched on it before, but the amount of time and attention that goes into expansion is hard to ignore.

After all, what were once 8 hour days can turn into 12 hours. And you still need to commute and take care of other responsibilities outside of work. Any work/life balance you once had can go down the drain.

When you want to expand your business, you’ll need to get ready for the cost. And some can be quite secretive.
