This is a contributed post.

There are many reasons you may want to earn extra money alongside your main job. Some people want an extra income to pay for their monthly meals, others to help pay off debts or buy their first home or car. No matter your reasons, there aren’t any negatives to bringing in an additional income!

Some ways to bring in money are more time-consuming than others. Some will be quick wins, such as selling things you own that you no longer need, like selling a phone. Others may be part of a long-term project, such as running your own blog – blog writing can turn into a full-time job if you enjoy it and are consistent enough.

Whatever method you choose to bring in some extra money, we hope it’s a success and you can enjoy the additional income that you are bringing in. Keep on reading to learn more about six ways to bring in some extra money alongside your main job.

Run a blog

Blogs can be a great source of income. You can make money from sponsored posts, sponsored competitions, affiliate links and display ads. The amount of money you make varies depending on the niche of your website and your viewership – as you can imagine, the more views you have, the more money you will bring in. Running a blog won’t bring you a huge amount of money initially, but when done right and consistently, some people are able to turn it into their full-time job. Our best advice is to write about a subject you are passionate about, this way it’s easier to write articles on a regular basis.

Tutor in a skill you’re good at

Are there any skills that you are good at, that you can teach in the evening or before work? Do you speak another language? Play a musical instrument? Play a sport at a high level?  Or extremely good at a certain subject, like maths? If you are, you can make some money by tutoring people in your local area who are interested in learning. Tutoring can be a good earner for a lot of people and the more you do it, the better you will become and be able to charge more for your services. Try reaching out to the local schools and see if you can teach any of the children after school to help them pass their exams.

Sell things you no longer use anymore

This point is a means to an end but may bring you in some extra money for the short term. Take a few hours out of your day to go through your items at home and make piles of anything you no longer need any more. There may be some clothes you no longer wear, jewellery that you have lost interest in or old tech that’s gathering dust. Once gathered, you can sell them on sites like Vintage, eBay or Facebook Marketplace to bring in some extra money.

Rent out your driveway

If you live in a major city, this can be a good money maker for you. If you have a driveway that you don’t use, but you live in a desirable area, you could try and rent your driveway out. People will pay you monthly to use your driveway, instead of having to park their cars in overpriced car parks or unsafe streets nearby. This isn’t going to make you rich, but it will bring in a small income, which you can save and put towards your money goals.

Teaching online courses

Above we spoke about tutoring in a skill you’re good at. An extension to that point would be to start teaching online courses. With technology being so advanced, you can now teach people from all over the world, from the comfort of your own home. You could be based in London and teaching people from the US or Canada, all you need is a laptop and a video camera. By teaching online, you can teach more people, meaning you have a bigger potential earnings and you don’t have to travel to teach, saving you time and money.

Survey Sites

Another small earner that will bring in some extra pocket money for you to spend each month is taking part in survey sites. There are a whole myriad of survey sites online that will pay you to take part in their online surveys. These surveys can be as quick as ten minutes, to as long as over an hour – the longer they are, the more they pay. Often brands will go to these survey sites, to learn more from the consumer about their product to help them grow. This means you could be doing surveys on some major brands.

When signing up for survey sites, the more surveys you do for them, the more likely they are to send you even more. This means that you may only have a few when you start, but this will start to build up over time. Before signing up, read the reviews to make sure the ones you are signing up for are legit and are recommended by the public.
