How A Blog Gets Bigger: Turning Your Writing Passion Into Income

Creating blog content can be a good way to earn some extra money. If you’re regularly putting out blog posts on a website optimized for the search engine, you could net yourself an extra $1000 per month.

Really, many people have seen their online efforts go from something they did in their spare time to the main income in their household.

And you could experience the same – but only if you set up your online strategy right. If you want your blog to get bigger and better, and to start making money in a reliable way, these are the methods to look into.

Get Your Links Out There

Getting links out there means getting your name out there. The more your name pops up on other sites, the more interest you’re going to generate. You’re also going to create a sense of trust and usefulness around your domain, which works on both human users and the search engine algorithm itself

Which means you need to write about the things you know. Put your thoughts and opinions out there – and back them up where you can – to create a sense of authority in your online voice. When you post, you post for the people. You want them to know as much as possible, to have access to information they can’t really get anywhere else; all in all, you want to provide original content that’s interesting, and even eye-opening.

The more your content stands out in this vein, the more chance you have of securing a backlink on another website.

You could also contact other blog owners and ask to guest post on their site, allowing for your own name and link at the bottom of the page, but also links to your content throughout the body of the post too.

Sign Up For Affiliate Marketing

This is an ‘age old’ way of making money via the online world. Sign up as an affiliate partner, pop links to products throughout your posts, and see if anyone purchases via these links. If they do, you’ll get a cut of the sale – simple!

You can also sign up for multiple affiliate programs, and there’s no limit to the amount of links you can use on even a single blog post. Of course, it’s best not to pack them in, but two or three well placed, relevant links for the rest of the content are unlikely to damage your standing.

Build a Blogging Team

A lot of blogs like to take this approach, and in your quest to turn your online presence into a well oiled, well paying machine, you could too. After all, if more than one person is creating content for your blog, you can benefit from a more consistent schedule, more viewpoints, opinions, and angles, and more coverage on social media.

You shouldn’t be too quick to hire new writers though. Take your time building your team, and ensure you all work together in a similar way. You need to know you’ve got like minded people behind the blog with you, and that your creative processes don’t get in each other’s way. You can have different ideas about what to create and how to grow – and that’s incredibly beneficial – but you need to agree on the fundamentals.

At the same time, you need to be aware of the technical side, and how multiple writers may affect that. The main thing to consider is the security of your blog; namely, who has access, where they’re accessing from, and how they’re accessing the site. You can manage various devices via ITAM Software – as long as your team agrees to make use of it – which will help you to stay on top of what’s connected and how secure it is.

Aside from that, you’ll need to maintain the right attitude towards content creation. You don’t want to hire more bloggers just to have low quality, unpolished content put out on a regular basis. That isn’t value for money, on your end, and it isn’t value for the reader either.

Look into Social Media Monetization

We all know that blogging looks quite different to how it did a decade ago. These days, while blogs are incredibly important for boosting online visibility and building an engaged audience, they can be left out of the conversation. And that conversation is happening on social media.

After all, if someone goes straight to a social media app over a search engine, your blog is going to miss out on a potentially interested viewer. If you put your blog content in the same place, however, you maximize your chances to secure that readership anyway. It’s why linking to and from blog posts via social media content is a key part of any growth strategy.

But the usefulness of social media doesn’t end there. Now you can directly monetize your content, which when combined with monetized blog content, could double your return from one single post alone.

Indeed, there are now more ways than ever to monetize your content on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and TikTok. You can sign up to creator/partner programs, and depending on whether you allow direct monetization, you can let your followers and viewers ‘tip’ you.

For example, Meta runs a system in which creators can be sent ‘stars’, which are worth around $0.01 each. If someone likes a social media post you’ve put out, they can choose to buy and send as many stars as they like.

Not only does this diversify your income, but it’s something you can use across various social media accounts. Convert the amazing blog you’ve just written into short form videos or images, pop a link back to the original in the post or on your profile, and create a visual experience that’s accessible, interesting, and potentially lucrative.

Blogging can be a great money maker. If you put the ideas above into action, your blog could get bigger and become a strong source of income.
