Writing is a tough career, requiring a lot of effort to succeed. You must pour your thoughts onto the computer day in and day out to make it as a novelist, blogger, or freelancer, it can feel overwhelming, especially when selling a property at the same time. However, with some thought and planning, you can balance writing and selling your home to keep your creativity up for your day job. Here are ways to get the right balance:

Prioritise Tasks

Having a structured to-do list for your day helps prevent distractions in writing and ensures you get the property-related tasks done, too. For instance, you can divide the day into writing and home-selling activities by allocating mornings for writing, if that is when you’re most productive and creative, and afternoons for decluttering. The evening could be dedicated to reviewing paperwork from potential buyers when you start to get offers. A set schedule helps you stay on track, avoid missing deadlines, and feel productive.

Maintain a Creative Space

Your writing area has to inspire you, or else you just sit and stare at a blank page on the computer screen, which isn’t a good use of time. So, even though the home will be busy with viewings and while cleaning, you must make an effort to keep the area where you work tranquil.

Although reducing stress may be difficult, doing so can help you maintain the creativity needed to create content for your career. You’ll also need to tidy your desk and keep the office area clutter-free to help it look bigger to be more attractive to potential buyers.

Team Up with Professionals

Enlist the help of experts in their fields to make selling your property easier. Avoid getting overwhelmed by having help from those who know what they’re doing.

Working with a great estate agent can help by marketing your property, handling viewings, and negotiating for you when the time comes. Also, enlist help with property transactions and legal obligations by working with knowledgeable HM estate agents and conveyancing solicitors. Being able to get legal and estate help from the same team makes communications easier and enables you to get effective help for what you need when you need it.

Don’t Overdo It

This one is easy to say but more difficult to put into practice for many writers. Try to set realistic writing goals, given you are balancing a career with selling the house. That might mean writing less than usual, but it is worth it when you avoid headaches by the end of the day and mental exhaustion.

To continue to be productive during this busy time, consider breaking big projects down into more manageable steps to keep you on track each day. You might also consider using voice-to-text software to give your fingers a break at the keyboard and put your thoughts into typed text easily. On days when your creativity wanes, be kind to yourself, as you have a lot going on right now.

Get Ready for Moving Day

Even if your house has not yet sold, you can still begin to plan and do tasks for moving day. After all, it will come one day soon. As you may not be able to take a break from writing (or may not want to), pack a special box to transport in the car with you to the new house on the big day. That way, your go-to writing supplies won’t get lost along the way and will be usable as soon as you get to the new house.

In the box, pack your essential items for writing. That includes a laptop, mouse, notebook, pen, and anything else you regularly use. Finally, think ahead to where you’ll want to set up the writing area in the property you move to and how to best organise it so that you can quickly move in and get back to work. Taking a few days away from work when moving can be a good idea to avoid overburdening yourself.

Conclusion: Balancing Writing and Selling a Property

Your life is busy, but there are great reasons for selling your house, and what better time to do so than now? Once you make the decision, you’ll have to maintain balance between writing work and the property sale process. An estate agent and conveyancing solicitor help you, as does prioritising daily tasks, planning for moving day, and the other tips mentioned above. All will go smoothly when you put in the effort to keep a good balance, and soon, you’ll be in a new creative space to continue your passion for writing.
