Another Twinkling God

Another Twinkling God is part four in a flash fiction series. It follows on from:

Part 1: Sequins, Stardust, and Rust

Part 2: From a Rainbow to a Tragedy

Part 3: Dead Stars Become Black Holes

If you’d like to give me a writing prompt for a future part, I’d love to try and work in anything that you throw at me!

The king was dead. Long live the king. The cogs stopped momentarily, but the sky is packed full of stars. As one fades, another twinkling god takes his place, siring a stable of hits.

Johnny was dead, but the record company was refining his replacement. Obtainable yet aloof. A rough-fuck fantasy for whom your mum would still buy tickets for you to see. The plans were set. The second album was currently being written. They could bury the Johnny shitshow behind some new carefully-curated Dionysus.

As long as they never found out about the actual skeleton in Johnny’s closest. That is something that no amount of stars in an infinite sky could ever compensate for. Even another twinkling god could not undo the damage that would cause.

Joe and Kenny had a few comfort zones; behind bass drums and bass guitars, riding tour buses and groupies and hiding in the bottoms of bottles. Their comfort zone was not debating how to rid themselves of the body of a dead stranger whose corpse had only gone a week without breathing.
