Money makes the world go round and nothing in this life comes for free. We all need to earn money, and one great way of making money is through blogging.
Whether you have a blog already, or you’re looking to start one, there are several avenues you can go down when it comes to monetizing your blog. These include placing ads on your page, selling digital products on your site, placing sponsored posts, and affiliate marketing.
There are a staggering 600 million blogs online, that’s a lot of competition. So, how do you make money blogging when there are so many others out there doing the same?
Here’s how you can get started in monetizing your blog.
Table of Contents
Placing Ads On Your Page
One of the simplest ways to make money from blogging is to sell ad space on your site. There are two different types of ads that are very popular, these are:
- Cost Per Click (CPC) Ads– Sometimes called pay-per-click ads. These are normally banners that you can place in your sidebars or on your banners
- CPM Ads- These are “cost per 1,000 impressions.” These will pay you a fixed amount of money based on who sees your ads
One of the most popular ad networks is Google AdSense. With AdSense there is no need to deal directly with brands or advertisers, instead, you’ll just be given ads to place on your page.
The type of ads that you get will be relevant to your content. That way, you’ll be more likely to get people clicking on the ads.
There are a number of other programs which work in a similar way including Infolinks, and Media.net.
You could also opt to cut out the ad networks. This will give you a greater slice of the pie because you’re eliminating the middleman. If you have a high-traffic site, advertisers may approach you. Or, alternatively, you can approach them yourself.
Private ads can come in the form of buttons, links, or banners.
Selling Digital Products On Your Site
If advertising other people’s products isn’t for you, why not offer a digital product for sale? You could include:
- eBooks
- Online courses and workshops
- Photos or videos
- Apps
- Themes or plugins
Whatever you do decide to sell on your site, make sure that it’s relevant to your visitors. Some bloggers make the mistake of offering a product they think their readers will want, only to find out it doesn’t sell.
Placing Sponsored Posts
A sponsored post is one that has been paid for. Often, a sponsored post will be paid for by a company that has a product or service they’d like to promote. The whole post may be centred around the product or service, or there may be a natural link to the companies website inserted within the post.
While sponsored posts are very common, there are certain rules you need to abide by. One such rule is that you need to state that the post is sponsored.
Affiliate Marketing
Another very common way of earning money from blogging is through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is very simple. The way it works is if someone has product they’re wanting to sell, you’ll link to their site and recommend that product.
You’ll earn a commission on any sales they generate from your recommendations. You’ll be given a unique link that tracks any sales that come through via your site. You can use this link as a banner, button, or placed in the body of your content.
When a visitor clicks through using your link and buys the product, you’ll get a cut of the sale
The most popular affiliate marketplace is Amazon Associates. Many companies have an affiliate scheme which you can take part in.

I hope it all works out for ya professionally, I miss the creative angle, so I don’t think I will follow ya anymore. But I got your address and email. Say to Mrs and the pup for me.
That’s fair enough. I understand that its quite a departure from what I used the site for previously.
