Here’s a very short poem called “That’s when I see you” that I wrote for this week’s Peoplespeakup. I’m not a very good listener. I am not very good at paying attention. But it is a skill that I want to learn. How good are you at seeing and hearing other people? What advice would you give to someone who finds this so hard like me? I didn’t hear you
I spoke too loud
I didn’t see you
I looked through you
Too often,
you’re a fixture in my life
Too often,
you’re just there.
We’ve set in motion an ocean
of distraction
a complex choreography
of near misses and collisions
and then we crash
with tremendous spark
And only then,
that is when
I see you
